Cupcake Boxes

★★★★★ 4.5/5 (15+ reviews)

Cupcakes need enough headroom for the icing and enough support underneath to stop them sliding. Custom cupcake boxes can be sized around the cake, topping height and number of cupcakes being packed.

Everything you need before you order

Custom cupcake boxes are bakery cartons made for single cupcakes, multi-cupcake orders and gift sets. They can include fitted inserts to hold each cake separately, window panels for display and custom printing for bakery branding. Sizes can be adjusted around the cupcake diameter and decoration height.

Custom Cupcake Boxes Need Room Above the Icing

The cupcake itself is rarely the difficult part to measure. The topping is. A plain cupcake may fit comfortably inside a shallow carton. Add buttercream, piping, toppers or decorations and considerably more clearance is needed above it.

If the lid sits too low, the icing can touch the top before the customer gets the box home. Making the carton unnecessarily tall isn’t ideal either, particularly when several boxes need to be stacked behind a bakery counter.

We normally look at the finished cupcake, including its tallest decoration, before settling on the box depth. Bakeries selling several types of baked goods can carry the same branding into their packaging for pastries while using different dimensions for each product.

Inserts Stop Cupcakes Moving Around

For a single cupcake, a small holder may be enough. Pack six or twelve together and the internal layout becomes much more important. Cupcake boxes with inserts give each cake its own opening. The insert should grip around the lower part of the cupcake without catching the wrapper or making it awkward to lift out.

The spacing between openings also matters when cakes have wide swirls of buttercream. Put them too close together and the toppings can touch even though the bases are held securely. Where a bakery sells several delicate products, fitted packaging inserts can also be developed for gift assortments and mixed bakery sets.

Window Boxes Work Well at the Counter

Decorated cupcakes are visual products. A clear lid window lets customers see the colours and decoration without repeatedly opening the carton. That’s useful for pre-packed selections, gift orders and bakery counter displays.

A window doesn’t have to cover the whole lid. Its size can be adjusted so there’s still enough board around the edges to keep the carton firm. Closed cardboard cupcake boxes are also useful when the cakes have already been selected and the priority is simply getting them home safely.

Kraft, Printed or Branded Cupcake Packaging?

A kraft carton works well for bakeries that prefer a simple, natural-looking box. White board gives artwork a cleaner base, particularly where accurate brand colours matter. For printed cupcake boxes, the lid and side panels can carry the bakery name, logo, social details or seasonal artwork. Businesses selling cupcakes alongside donuts can use related artwork on their boxes for donut orders without using exactly the same structure.

Gift Orders Need a Little More Planning

Birthday orders, weddings and corporate gifts are often packed differently from everyday counter sales. A cupcake gift box may need a window, stronger insert and more space between cakes, particularly when the decoration is detailed. Personalised cupcake boxes can also carry names, event artwork or short-run branding. For Christmas, weddings or other seasonal ranges, the box structure can stay the same while the printed design changes. This avoids starting again with a new dieline for every event.

Wholesale Supply for Regular Bakery Orders

Once the cupcake size, insert and carton dimensions are settled, the same specification can be used for repeat orders. For cupcake boxes wholesale, quantities can be produced for regular bakery use with consistent openings, board and print from one run to the next. That matters when staff are packing dozens of boxes during busy periods—the insert and lid should fit the same way each time.
