Corrugated Board
A dependable fluted board built for shipping pressure, stacking strength, and day-to-day courier handling. A practical choice when protection matters as much as presentation.
A shipping box has to carry the packed weight, not just fit the product. Custom shipping boxes can be sized around the contents, with the corrugated board and wall construction chosen for the journey ahead.

An empty product measurement isn’t enough to specify a shipping carton. We need to know what actually leaves the packing bench. A product may already have a retail box around it, then an insert, protective material or several other items packed alongside it. All of that changes the internal dimensions.
A box that’s too large leaves room for the contents to shift. Go too small and staff end up forcing products into the carton or removing protective material just to get the flaps closed. For that reason, custom shipping boxes should be measured around the complete packed order rather than the product alone. Smaller direct-to-customer orders can also use custom mailer packaging where a hinged-lid structure makes more sense than a conventional shipping case.
There isn’t one useful set of shipping box sizes for every business. A company sending one skincare product has very different requirements from a supplier dispatching several boxed products together. Small shipping boxes help keep compact orders under control. Large shipping boxes need more attention to packed weight and empty space, while long products may require cartons with completely different proportions.
Huge cartons create another issue: the larger the unsupported panels become, the more the board specification matters. Before deciding the shipping box dimensions, we’d normally arrange the contents as they will actually be dispatched and measure that complete footprint.
Corrugated board isn’t one material specification. Single-wall board uses one fluted layer between liners and works for many everyday shipping applications. Double wall shipping boxes add another fluted section, creating a more substantial construction for applications where the packed load and handling conditions call for it.
That doesn’t mean every parcel should automatically use double wall. For lightweight products, adding more board than the job requires can be unnecessary. Heavier products, larger cartons and demanding distribution conditions may justify it. Businesses comparing board constructions can also look at our corrugated packaging options before settling on the final specification.
When a shipping carton fails, the problem isn’t always at the sides. Heavy contents transfer their weight through the bottom panels. If several items are concentrated in one part of the carton, that load can become uneven as well. For heavy duty shipping boxes, we’d consider the filled weight, product position and base construction together.
An internal divider or insert can sometimes help distribute and control the contents rather than relying entirely on a heavier outer box. Where several products need their own position, packaging inserts can be developed around the internal arrangement.
An eCommerce carton has to make it through distribution, but it’s also often the first physical packaging a customer sees. Some businesses keep the outside relatively simple and put more branding inside. Others use printed shipping boxes so the parcel is recognisable as soon as it arrives. Neither approach changes the first requirement: the carton still needs to work as shipping packaging.
Print shouldn’t be used to compensate for a poor fit or unsuitable board. For branded shipping boxes, logos, instructions, handling information and other graphics can be incorporated once the structure and board specification have been settled.
Small postal shipping boxes often pass through several handling points before delivery. A compact carton can be useful because it limits unnecessary movement and keeps the parcel easier to handle. But the box still needs enough internal room for any protective packaging required by the product.
This is particularly important for mixed eCommerce orders. If several small retail cartons share one shipping box, the internal arrangement should be tested before a bulk run. Filling gaps afterwards on every order usually points to a sizing problem that could have been addressed earlier.
When a business is dispatching hundreds of orders, even a minor carton issue gets repeated hundreds of times. A flap that’s consistently difficult to close slows packing. Excess internal space increases the amount of void fill needed. A box that’s slightly too small creates the opposite problem.
Before ordering shipping boxes wholesale, it makes sense to approve the internal dimensions, corrugated specification and closure using the real packed contents. Once approved, the same structure can be retained for bulk shipping boxes, while artwork can change where different brands or product ranges share the same carton size.

How do I calculate the right shipping box size?
Measure the complete packed order, including retail cartons, inserts and protective materials. Internal dimensions should provide enough packing clearance without leaving excessive space for products to move.
When should I use double-wall shipping boxes?
Double-wall corrugated board may be appropriate for heavier contents, larger cartons or more demanding distribution conditions. The packed weight and shipping journey should determine the specification rather than box size alone.
What is the difference between a mailer box and a shipping box?
Mailer boxes commonly use a hinged lid and roll-end construction, making them useful for many smaller eCommerce orders. Conventional shipping cartons generally use closing flaps and are available across a broader range of sizes and board specifications.
Can a shipping box be made to exact product dimensions?
Yes, but the dimensions should normally account for the complete packed configuration rather than tightly following the bare product. Any inserts, retail packaging or protective materials need space too.
Do heavy products need inserts inside shipping boxes?
Not necessarily, but inserts or dividers can help control movement and separate multiple items. The outer corrugated specification still needs to suit the total packed weight and distribution conditions.
Can shipping boxes be printed with a company logo?
Yes. Logos, brand graphics and handling information can be printed on shipping cartons. The structural specification should ideally be approved before the artwork is finalised.
What should I provide when ordering custom shipping boxes?
Provide the required internal dimensions, packed weight, product type, quantity and expected distribution method. Details of printing, inserts or dividers should also be supplied where required.
